Reefs of Safaga
House reef
The house reef is approximately 50m far from the beach. It is parted in diverse sections and has diverse depths. It’s a paradise for both, skin divers and divers. It is suitable for discover scuba diving and dive course’s practice lessons, both, day and night. There is the reef with corals and different fish species, as well as a field of sea grass where often a turtle can be seen.

Shaab Saiman ( 55 minutes )
Directly from the land starts this very beautiful reef, but in the winter season a strong wind makes diving mostly impossible. This is why the submarine life still is very original. In the spring time Mantas often gather there. |

Ras Abu Soma ( 45 minutes)
This reef is 2 km long and gently slopes down directly from the coast. More than 5 spots invite to pleasant dives. Sometimes a slight current makes drift dives possible. A drop off can be found between 25 to 30 meters. The outer side of the reef presents a beautiful marine fauna and flora. From time to time turtles and white tip sharks can be seen here. |

Tobya Arba – 7 Pillars ( 40 minutes )
As the name suggests 7 pillars come up from a depth of 10 to 12 meters rising up almost to the surface. They are surrounded by small coral heads where crocodile fish and large Black spotted puffer fish lay camouflaged in the sand. Overhanging Sea Fans, Lizard fish, Glass fish, a colony of several Lion fishes and a resident Humphead Wrasse ( Napoleon fish ) make this an exceptional dive. |

Tobya Hamra ( 40 minutes )
Beautiful coral fields gave to this place the name “Coral Garden”. It really is a paradise for making pictures and videos. Stone fish, Octopus, Moray eels and at the drop off sometimes Eagle rays are often seen there. The depth is from 5 to 30 meters. |

Tobya Kebir ( 30 minutes )
Tobya Kebir is an ideal dive site for all levels of divers. The inner reef offers many sandy spots for beginner exercise. On the outside of this reef a small cave hides lots of Glass fishes. Furthermore you can find here Moray eels, blue spotted Groupers and lots of red lion fishes. For advanced divers this place offers a good opportunity for drift dives |

Tobya Island ( 30 minutes )
The dive site Tobya Island is located on the southern end of the equally named Island. Starting in a sandy lagoon, which is perfectly suited for course training, it soon opens into a coral reef dropping down to 25-30 meters. Murray eels and scorpionfish are common here. From time to time even Dolphins drop in at this location. |

Tobya Soraya ( 30 minutes )
A colorful reef with blocks of different sizes. You can see here many different kind of Red Sea fishes, Banner fish, Spade fish, Blue spotted Groupers and Stingrays. You can discover a small cave in 7 meters full of Glass fishes and Groupers. The depth vary between 11 and 15 meters. Night dives are an exceptional experience in this dive site. |

Gamul Soraya ( 25 minutes )
Gamul Soraya is a small coral block. Only the outer side is nice to dive at. Here you meet all different kind of fishes : Butterfly fishes, Conger Eels, Groupers, Jack fishes, Banner fishes, Trigger fishes, Angelfishes and Moray Eels. At night turtles and octopus are regularly seen there. |

Gamul Kebir ( 20 minutes )
In the north of this reef there are different blocks with beautiful soft corals. As you often can see a Group of barracudas this place is also called “Barracuda House”. Even stingrays and nurse sharks are often seen there. Nice sea grass is in between this blocks. In the winter time the strong wind mostly makes diving impossible. But at the southern reef it is normally easy to dive. Trigger fishes, lion fishes and moray eels as well as the typical red sea fauna and flora is to see there.

Panorama Reef ( 70 minutes )
Panorama Reef is one of the biggest and well-known reefs in Safaga. The extent of this single big coral block is 400 meters. Usually you dive at the south point with its exceptional plateau going down to 35 meters. Down there you can see Eagle rays, Tuna fishes and sometimes White tip sharks. Unique in this place is a wonderful anemone field sloping down from the surface to 15 meters. More than 40 Anemone fishes are usually to be seen there. This area is ideal for drift dives. By good weather conditions you can dive on the north side where you can find beautiful coral formations and turtles. Do not miss a early morning dive in summer: Hammerhead sharks are sometimes seen there. |

Middle Reef ( 80 minutes )
This is a very rarely chosen dive site in the south of Safaga. On its north side is a drop off with nice coral formations. Tuna fishes and groups of barracudas often can be seen there. For current dives this is a suitable place. The southern part of this reef shows beautiful coral gardens letting you feel a touch of paradise. The depth are 15 meters maximum. |

Shaab Quais ( 85 minutes )
Two small coral blocks with many soft corals, barracudas and humphead wrasses ( Napoleon fishes) as well as currents in the morning and a drop off until 40 meters this splendid reef is offering. Only a matter for experienced divers ! |

Abu Kafan ( 90 minutes )
Abu Kafan is one of the most beautiful places here in Safaga. You can dive in both parts, north as south. In the north place an interesting plateau offers at its drop off beautiful black corals. Beside a resident barracuda school and turtles and from time to time even Grey sharks are to be seen there. Its southern part shows drop offs in 30 meters and at the outer reef different kinds of sharks are to see there. In the winter time Manta rays glide up from the big blue deep. |

Shaab Sheer ( 70 minutes )
The dive sites lie at the east and west side of this 2 km long reef where wonderful coral gardens and caves can be admired. The northern part is ideal for drift dives. You can see here a wide range of submarine life: Red Sea Banner fishes, Masked Butterfly fishes, Blue spotted stingrays and turtles. The outside of the reef slopes down to 40 meters. |

Shaab Claude ( 75 minutes )
This small reef close to Shaab Sheer with a maximum depth of 20 meters shows at its outside resident Red Sea Banner fishes ad Masked Butterfly fishes. Moray eels and sometimes Eagle rays are seen there. A big coral block rising up from 17 meters to 6 meters is decorated with beautiful soft corals. |

Shaab Bagul ( 75 minutes )
At Shaab Bagul you will anchor inside a half opened lagoon, from where you can dive either south- or northward. To the north you follow the main reef block in a depth of 10 up to 15 meters. The southern part offers you different reef blocks and experienced divers can even reach a drop off in approximately 30 meters. Inside the lagoon, sometimes big stingrays can be found. |

Shaab Sheer Soraya ( 70 minutes )
Shaab Sheer soraya is one of the southern reefs of Safaga. It’s a smaller reef with maximum depths round about 17 meters. The fish specialty of this site is a huge amount of Red Sea Banner fishes in the north-east of the reef. |

Salem Express ( 70 minutes)
The 100 meter sized ferry Salem Express, sunk in December 1991. It is settled on the bottom of the sea on his portside. The bow lies in a depth of 32 meters whereas the propeller lies at only 14 meters below the surface. Till today there are a lot of objects and debris around the ship. The command bridge is accessible, the rest of the ship, which is declared to be a funeral site, is prohibited for divers. |

Shaab Hamdhallah ( 80 minutes)
Shaab Hamdhallah, the most southern reef of Safaga is even one of the most beautiful. The main cone shaped reef block and a smaller block next to it reach the surface. They are added by several other reef blocks which begin in a depth of 16 – 17 meters. So if you have currant, it is a spot for preferable experienced divers. Marvelous corrals and a rich fauna make this dive site a special one.
